Meringue problems, diagnosed

Start with one question: where is the liquid? Beads on top of a baked meringue usually point to overbaking, while a watery layer between the meringue and pie filling points to insufficient baking at the underside. Undissolved sugar, unstable foam and humid conditions can add secondary problems.
