Pie Crust problems, diagnosed

A soggy bottom usually means moisture reached the raw crust before enough heat had set and browned it. First check whether the shell should have been prebaked, what pan material you used, and where the pie sat in the oven. King Arthur specifically recommends metal pans, lower-rack or strong bottom heat, and prebaking for pies whose fillings cannot stay in the oven long enough to crisp the base.
