Layer Cake Frosting problems, diagnosed

The timing usually reveals the cause. Frosting that slides while you apply it points to a warm cake or overly soft frosting. A bulge that appears later between layers points to filling or layer movement. A chilled cake that becomes slick after coming into a warm room may have condensation interfering with adhesion.
