Before you start
What this method is trying to achieve
Air fryers move hot air aggressively, so salmon cooks quickly. Coat the fillets lightly, leave space around each piece, and treat the suggested time as a starting point rather than a fixed rule.
Success looks like
Know the target before you cook
The salmon should be lightly browned on the outside and moist, tender and flaky inside without a dry outer band.
Ingredients
What you need
Salmon
- 4 salmon fillets, about 130 to 170 g each
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Seasoning
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp mixed dried herbs
- 0.75 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp paprika
Finish
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
Method
Cook by the cues, not just the clock
Preheat
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F / 204°C if your model recommends preheating.
Season
Pat the salmon dry, rub lightly with olive oil, then coat with salt, pepper, herbs, garlic powder and paprika.
Arrange
Place the salmon in the basket in one layer with space between the fillets.
Air fry
Cook for about 8 to 10 minutes, checking thinner fillets earlier and extending thicker fillets only as needed.
Rest
Rest 2 to 3 minutes and serve with lemon wedges.
Critical checkpoints
Stop here and check
Basket check: fillets spaced apart?
Hot air can move around every piece.Cook in batches if the basket is crowded.
At 8 minutes: thinner pieces done?
Thin fillets may already be moist and flaky.Remove finished pieces while thicker fillets continue.
Dry outer band forming?
The exterior becomes firm and pale before the center needs more time.Use salmon-dry and shorten the cook or lower exposure next time.

Storage, reheating & substitutions
Storage
Cool promptly and refrigerate in a covered container.
Reheating
Reheat briefly at a lower air-fryer temperature or serve cold; avoid a full second high-heat cook.
Substitutions
Use dried dill or Italian herb blend in place of mixed herbs. Garlic powder can replace garlic granules.
